It is now the turn of Commercial Vehicles to be explored in detail as far as worldwide sales for 2012 are concerned. This ranking excludes pick-up trucks which are treated separately. Now sometimes the frontier between commercial and leisure van is blurry so I have tried to keep this ranking strictly commercial, with a separate MPV ranking coming up shortly. At this little game the Chinese are king, and not because their commercial vans sell well around the world. Their success in China alone is enough to allow them to monopolise the Top 4, a clear indication of the strength of commercial sales in China (almost 5 million vehicles sold last year).
Chevrolet N300/Wuling Rongguang
The Wuling Sunshine is the most popular commercial van in the world with 523,724 sales, followed by the Wuling Rongguang (aka Chevrolet N300 in South America) at 380,342 units, the Foton Forland with 336,767 sales and the Wuling Hongguang at 316,237 units. The best-selling non-Chinese van is the Suzuki Carry/Every albeit spanning 3 different generations to add up to 313,105 sales.
Below the ChangAn Minibus at #6, we find the Ford Transit at 236,120 units, ahead of the Renault Kangoo, VW Transporter and VW Caddy. Then there are 3 more Chinese vans follow within the next 4 spots, bringing the total to 8 in the Top 14! Notice also the GAZ Gazelle at #20, Mercedes Sprinter at #22 and Fiat Doblo, Ducato and Fiorino at #26, #27 and #28 respectively, leading the Italian charge.
