The New Zealand new car market is up 7% year-on-year in January to 9,293 registrations. But behind this honest growth actually hide some record-breaking numbers… Passenger car sales are down 1% on January to 7,385 but this is only the 4th January to ever exceed 7,000 units after 1982, 2008 and 2012. Up 61% to 1,908 units, commercial vehicle sales hit their highest monthly figure since 1982! The Toyota Corolla tops the sales charts for the 5th consecutive month, ahead of the Holden Cruze brilliantly up 20 spots on last month to #2 and the Suzuki Swift rounding up the podium.
Other great performers this month include the Hyundai Santa Fe up 9 ranks to #6, Mazda3 up 8 to #10, Toyota RAV4 up 7 to #12, Holden Colorado up 7 also to #13, Ford Falcon back up to #16, Honda CR-V up to #17, Nissan X-Trail up to #20 vs. #38 in 2012 and the VW Polo making its very first appearance in the New Zealand Top 25 at #25.
