Malaysia January 2013: Market up 34%
Only the total sales figure is now available for Malaysia, with brands and models ranking a thing of the past, temporarily hopefully. And after breaking its all-time record in 2012, the Malaysian new car market starts the year 2013 extremely well: up 34.5% year-on-year in January to 55,066 registrations. This was explained by the Malaysian Automotive Association by strong incentives leading up to the Chinese New Year season. However, it is estimated that the pending general elections could be a distraction for some customers that hope “promises by certain parties of reducing taxes on vehicles will come true after the elections and prefer to wait and see what happens”, Motor Trader Malaysia says.
