Still no sign of improvement for new car sales in France: after 28 days in January, the market is still down 16% year-on-year to 96,919 registrations. Brand-wise, Renault is back above Peugeot at 16.7% share vs. 16.5% with both carmakers improving their market share vs. one week ago while Citroen stays #3 at 14.5%. Volkswagen (9.3%) and Dacia (6.9%) both see their share slip down a bit but remain at very impressive levels. The French market has now totally switched to a Peugeot 208/Renault Clio IV duel, with both best-sellers improving their market share compared to last week to 5.8% and 4.8% respectively.

Still, if it ranks #5 this month it would be the nameplate’s first time in the French monthly Top 5 in 2.5 years and its 5th time overall after January 2010 (#5), March 2010 (#2), May and August 2010 (#4). Finally, notice the VW Polo holding well at #6 and the VW Golf at #8, ahead of both the Citroen C4 and the Peugeot 308…
