New car sales in Egypt are up an encouraging 23% year-on-year in December to 21,715 registrations, bringing the Full Year 2012 total to just above 200,000 units and 200,252 exactly, up 13% on 2011. Big event this month: for the first time since November 2011 when the Hyundai Elantra led the way, the most popular vehicle in the country isn’t the Chevrolet TFR or Hyundai Verna, but the Renault Logan. Potentially boosted by runout prices before the arrival of the new generation, the Logan jumps up 21 spots on November to hit a best-ever 1,616 sales and 7.4% after ranking #4 in June and #6 in July. The Chevrolet TFR (7%) and Hyundai Verna (6.9%) follow albeit at much lower levels than their Full Year averages.
The Hyundai Elantra continues to shine at #4 and 6.5% share, as does the Kia Cerato at #7 and the Golden Dragon Haice back into the Top 10 for the third time in the last 5 months at #10. The Renault Sandero is up 6 spots on last month to #14, the Opel Astra NB up 5 to #19, the Brilliance V5 is up 8 ranks to reach a best-ever 24th spot with 282 sales and 1.3% and the Geely Emgrand 7 shines for its 2nd month in market: up 16 spots to #25 at 247 units and 1.1%.
