Vietnam Full Year 2012: Toyota Fortuner #1 for the first time

2012 has been a difficult year for new car sales in Vietnam, down 27% on 2011 to 80,487 registrations. After being interrupted last year by the Kia Morning, Toyota resumes its decade-long domination of the Vietnamese models ranking, placing the Fortuner in pole position for the very first time and 4 models in the Top 4… The Fortuner sells 6,129 units for a 7.6% share, up 6% on 2011. It held the monthly crown for 11 months this year and its grip on the ranking has been uncontested. The Toyota Corolla Altis ranks #2 like in 2011 but is down 28% to 4,579 sales and 5.7%, followed by the Toyota Innova down 30% to 4,233 sales and 5.3% and the Toyota Vios down 22% to 4,207 units and 5.2%.

Leader last year, the Kia Morning returns to the 5th place it held back in 2010, losing over half its sales year-on-year at 3,469 units and 4.3%. In fact, only 4 models gain ground on 2011 in the Vietnamese Top 20: the Fortuner, the Toyota Camry up 12% to #6, Honda CR-V up 5% to #12 and Kia Sorento up 68% to #20. Notice also the Toyota Hilux up 7 spots to #9, the Chevrolet Aveo also up 7 to #19, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport up 36% to #23, Kia Picanto landing directly at #24 and the Chevrolet Orlando up 109% to #27.
