Now that my traditional source for detailed Slovak data has gone all restricted on us, I have to rely on random articles in the Slovak press to report on new car sales in Slovakia. I you know of a different location where to get Slovak data, please make sure to get in touch – thanks! Slovakia is one of the rare European countries to see its new car sales increase year-on-year in 2012 at +2% to 69,268 registrations. New data differentiates between the two generations of Skoda Octavia still on sale in the country and as a result the Skoda Fabia is the most popular model in the country this year with 5,300 sales and 7.7%, up 7% on 2011, while the Skoda Octavia II takes the 2nd spot at 4,938 units and 7.1%. The previous gen Octavia Tour is #5.
Exceptional performance of the locally produced Hyundai i30, up 6 spots and a massive 106% on 2011 thanks to the new generation to round up the podium at #3 with 2,101 sales and 3%. Its cousin the Kia Cee’d, also renewed this year, performs strongly as well: up 13% to #4 at 1,838 units and 2.7%. Other great performers in the Top 10 are the Kia Rio up a massive 29 spots and 141% to #9 thanks to the new model and the Skoda Yeti up 11 ranks and 48% to #10.
