After a record year in 2011, the Colombian new car market is down a reasonable 3% year-on-year in 2012 to 315,968 registrations, still the 2nd best-ever annual tally in the country. Big change atop the models ranking: the Renault Sandero/Stepway snaps up the top spot and puts an end to 6 consecutive years of Chevrolet Aveo domination thanks to 14,837 sales and 4.7%, albeit down 13%. The Chevrolet Spark GT gains one spot on 2011 to land at #2 with 13,506 units and 4.3% (-18%) with the Chevrolet Aveo down 39% to #2 because of the arrival of the Chevrolet Sail directly at #10 with 7,197 sales.
The Renault Logan loses 29% on 2011 but stays #4, the Hyundai City (the taxi version of the i10) is up 3 ranks to #5 while the best performing all-new model in Colombia in 2012, the Renault Duster, lands directly at an outstanding 6th place with 8,763 units and 2.8%. Further down, great performers include the Kia Picanto up 38% to #11, the Kia Rio and Hyundai Tucson both up 31% to #13 and #14 respectively, the Toyota Prado up 34% to #15, Hyundai i25 up 70% to #17, Chevrolet N300 (aka Wuling Rongguang) up 171% to #18, Nissan Versa up 606% to #22 and Nissan March up 475% to #24.
Notice also the VW Gol up a fantastic 135% to #29, the Chevrolet Sonic arriving at #35 with 2,240 sales, the Hyundai i35 up 203% to #46, Renault Fluence up 37% to #49. Apart from the Chevrolet Sail and N300, there are 3 additional Chinese imports in the Colombian Top 60 this year: the Chery Van is #43, the DongFeng Van #53 and the JAC Veloce (aka J3) ranks #56.
