In spite of the current economic climate in Europe, car sales in the UK are up 3% year-on-year to 142,322 registrations and up 1% year-to-date at 705,878 units. SMMT has revised its Full Year 2012 prediction up to 1.95 million units, a 0.4% progression over 2011. The Ford Fiesta is in command of the models ranking once again with 8,780 sales and a solid 6.2% share, ahead of the Vauxhall Corsa at 4.3% and the Ford Focus at 3.9%. Notice the Corsa passing the Focus year-to-date by just one unit to establish itself in second place.
Below the Vauxhall Astra back in shape at 3.3% share, the BMW 3 Series takes advantage of the new generation to gain 5 spots on last month and land in 5th position, its highest ranking in the UK since last August. After an absence of over 2 years, we welcome back the Fiat 500 in the UK monthly Top 10 at #10 with 2,600 sales and 1.8%, beating its archenemy the Mini. It is only the 4th time the Fiat 500 manages to rank within the UK Top 10 after October 2009 (#10), December 2009 (#9) and January 2010 (#10).
