After being artificially boosted in the wake of tax rises on April 1, the Finnish new car market significantly cools down at only 3,901 registrations in April, down 64% year-on-year and bringing the year-to-date total to 51,399 units, up 10% on 2011. Reduced market means higher volatility for the models ranking and this month there are a few big surprises: coming out of nowhere (or at least outside the Top 30), the Volvo V50 is the best-selling model in Finland this month with 259 sales and an imposing 6.6% market share!

It is followed by the Toyota Yaris at 222 units and 5.7% and the Hyundai i20 up no less than 22 spots on last month to #3 with 207 sales and 5.3%. Another model that takes advantage of this one-off month is the Kia Rio, up from outside the Top 30 in March to #7 at 122 units and 3.1%.
