New car sales in Brazil are back in positive, up 5% year-on-year to 147,281 registrations and bringing the year-to-date total to 1,164,787 units, down 2% on 2011. The VW Gol stays comfortably on top with 10,957 sales and 7.4% share, with December 2011 its lowest share in possibly 8 years, ahead of the Fiat Uno at 9,064 units and 6.2%, also its lowest share since May 2010. After 3 months out, the Chevrolet Celta is back to its traditional third position with 6,891 sales ad 4.7%, kicking the Fiat Palio down to #4 and plateauing at 4.6% share.
A couple of Chevrolet passenger cars make up for weak performances in the last couple of months: beyond the Celta, the Corsa Sedan is up 3 spots and a full percentage share point on April to #6 at 5,502 units and 3.7% and the Corsa Hatchback is up 9 ranks to #15 with 2,678 sales and 1.8%. Other great performers include the Fiat Siena breaking into the Top 10 for the first time since mid-September 2011 at #10 and the Chevrolet Montana up 3 spots to #13, its best-ever ranking in Brazil.
Further down, notice the Honda CR-V up 20 ranks on April to #33, the Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback up 45 to #56 with 582 sales and 0.4% and the Hyundai Elantra up a further 3 to #62. As far as Chinese models are concerned, the usual suspects atop the ranking slow down this month, with the Chery QQ down 7 spots to #66, the JAC J3 down 13 to #73 and the JAC J3 Turin down 6 to #92. However, the JAC J5 is up 28 to #114 to rank 4th Chinese model ahead of the Chery Tiggo at #126.
