Kuwait February 2012: Toyota prado holds onto top spot…for now

Kuwaiti car sales are up 27% in February to 10,900 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 21,286 units, up 28% on 2011. In 2011 the Toyota Prado inherited the models ranking pole position thanks to supply issues for the Toyota Hilux. This trend continues at the start of the year, with the Toyota Prado leading the 2012 year-to-date ranking at end-February with 1,482 sales and a shiny 7% market share. The Hilux claws its way back to #1 in February at 7.3% share but with January at #9 it is #2 YTD at 1,086 units and 5.1%.
The Nissan D22 pick-up rounds up the podium in February with 641 sales and 5.9% and is now #5 year-to-date at 3.1% vs. #15 and 1.4% in 2011. The Mitsubishi Pajero also performs really well: #4 in January at 3.8% and #5 in February at 2.7% vs. #12 over the Full Year 2011. The other great performer in the Top 10 is the Nissan Patrol at #8 and 2.5% vs.#19 and 1.1% in 2011.
Further down, the Hyundai Elantra is up 23 spots on January to #18, the Ford Edge up 52 to #20, the Range Rover Sport at #33 vs.#62 in 2011, the Hyundai Azera up 85 to #38, the Hyundai i20 up to #60 and the Porsche 911 at #69 vs.#155 in 2011.
