In an overall market down 28%, new station wagon (sw) sales in Italy are down ‘only’ 24% to 11,862 registrations, confirming it is one of the last countries in the world with Sweden and a few other to still be in love with this format. After two months of Ford Focus domination, the Opel Astra, 2011’s best-seller, jumps back in pole position in March with 1,574 sales, in spite of a sw ratio down to 58%. The Focus is #2 at 1,385 units but still leads year-to-date with 4,919 units.
In third place with 1,056 sales, the VW Passat improves further a sw ratio that we thought had maxed out: in March 92% of VW Passats sold in Italy were station wagons! It is just two units above the Audi A4 at #4, while the Renault Megane is up one spot to #5 and the Peugeot 508 is up to 6th place like in January, its best-ever ranking in Italy. The Volvo V50 and Mercedes C-Class reappear in the Top 10.
