The Japanese car market is up another 24% year-on-year this month after growing by 28% in October, a contrast to the tsunami-plagued first half of the year. The Toyota Prius continues to dominate the models ranking head and shoulders, boosted by the success of its MPV version named α (Alpha) in Japan, with 34,164 sales in November, up a massive 60% on November 2010. Its year-to-date total stands at 229,530 units and will be shy of last year’s record 315,669 sales by the time the year ends.

In 2nd place, the Honda Fit takes a breather, down 2% year-on-year at 16,399 sales and 192,634 year-to-date, already ahead of its 2010 score of 185,439… The Toyota Vitz (aka Yaris) has an excellent month at #3 with 10,602 sales, up 56%, followed by the Nissan Serena (+211%!), Toyota Corolla (+18%) and Honda Freed (-1%), making the November Top 5 identical to the 2011 year-to-date ranking.

Other great performers this month include the Toyota Estima at #8 and +82%, the Toyota Crown at #12 and +75%, the Toyota Sienta at #16 and +286% and the Mazda Axela (aka Mazda3) at #27 and +89%.
