Japan Kei Cars October 2011: Daihatsu Mira takes off

Thanks to the E:S version just launched, the Daihatsu Mira, #2 last month, grabs the pole position in October with almost double the sales of the next best-selling Kei car in Japan! Its 19,918 sales are 218% ahead of the October 2010 figure, but the Mira stays #4 year-to-date at 82,359 units, down 6%.

Daihatsu scores a 1-2 with the Tanto up one spot on September to #2 with 10,856 sales, down 13% year-on-year. It is #3 year-to-date at 111,560 units, down 33%. This year’s leader, the Suzuki Wagon R, is down to #3 this month with 10,589 sales, adding up to 131,601 units over 10 months, down 21%, while the Daihatsu Move stays at #4 with 9,960 sales and stands at #2 in 2011 at 123,729 units, up 9%.

The all-new Toyota Pixis Space breaks into the Kei car Top 20 for its first full month of sales in 12th position with 1,845 sales. Other good performers this month include the Honda Life, up 3 spots on last month and 192% year-on-year at #6 and the Suzuki MR Wagon, up 2 spots and 239% year-on-year to #10.
