Japan August 2011: Toyota Prius leads in recovered market

At 216,150 registrations August 2011 Japanese car sales are down 25% on August 2010 which was artificially boosted by government subsidies, but up 9% on August 2009… The Toyota Prius stays on top at +12% year-on-year with 24,998 sales, it is now also back in pole position in the 2011 year-to-date ranking at 132,537 units.
The Honda Fit (-2%), Toyota Vitz (-20%) and Nissan Serena (-3%) follow in the same order in August as in the year-to-date ranking. The Toyota Corolla is up 2 spots on July to #5, ahead of the Mazda Demio (-2) and Toyota Ractis (-1).
Toyota is back in shape and places the Sienta at #15, up 9 spots on July, while the Vanguard (#23) and SAI (#25) are back in the Top 30. Notice the Lexus CT200h still strong at #22, the first Lexus model to hold itself within the Japanese Top 30 on a regular basis.
