Mexico July 2011: Once in a decade event taking shape!

VW Clasico

Very healthy figures for car sales in Mexico again this month: up 11% both in July at 68,533 registrations and year-to-date at 481,659 units. 2011 is looking more and more like the theater of a once-in-a-decade event: the advent of a new leader in the Mexican models ranking.

After 8 years of Nissan Tsuru domination, the VW Clasico ranks #1 in July for the 5th time in the last 6 months with 5,113 sales and 7.5% of the market, comfortably above the Tsuru (4,276 sales and 6.2%). The Clasico therefore reinforces its pole position year-to-date at 34,776 units and 7.2%, up 76% year-on-year vs. 33,182 and 6.9%, down 2% for the Tsuru.

The Chevrolet Aveo has a very robust month at 4.4% share, climbing onto the podium at #4 above the Nissan Tiida Sedan and VW Nuevo Jetta, both at 3.2% share. The Chevrolet Spark is back into the Top 10 at 1.5%.
