Philippines 2008-2009: Toyota Vios now ahead of Innova

Car sales in the Philippines are now firmly on the way up: at +6% both year with 124,449 registrations in 2008 and 132,444 in 2009. After 3 years of Toyota Innova domination, the Toyota Vios takes the relay and is the fist passenger car to hold the Filipino pole position since the Toyota Corolla in 1998… It sells 12,020 units in ’08 for a best-ever 9.7% market share and 11,990 in ’09 at 9.1%. The Innova is #2 both years at 8% in ’08 and 7.8% in ’09.

Toyota Fortuner

Toyota manages the incredible feat of placing 4 models in the Top 4 in ’08: the Fortuner is #3 with 5,588 sales and 4.5% and the Avanza is #4 at 5,515 units and 4.4%. The Isuzu Crosswind is the first non-Toyota model that year at #5 with 5,264 units and 4.2%, followed by the Honda Civic (4.2%) and Mitsubishi Adventure (4.1%).

Honda City

The ranking is greatly reshuffled in ’09 with the new generation Honda City rocketing up to third place with 8,882 sales and 6.7% ahead of the Mitsubishi Montero Sport, new to the Top 10 and directly #4 at 8,092 units and 6.1%, and the Toyota Fortuner at 4.4%. With the Avanza at #7, the Hilux at #9 and the Corolla at #10, Toyota places an unprecedented 6 models in the Top 10…
