New car sales in Hungary drop 5.6% year-on-year in 2006 to 187.842 units. Local producer Suzuki celebrates ten consecutive years atop the brands ranking but sinks 17% this year to 17.4% share. That’s still six percentage points above Opel (-11%) at 11.4% while Ford (+9%) climbs onto the podium for 2006, dislodging Skoda (-7%) just as Volkswagen (+2%) remains in 5th place. Toyota (+11%) overtakes Renault (-17%) for #6, with Chrysler (+224%), Lexus (+136%), Ssangyong (+135%), Lancia (+114%), Saab (+43%), Subaru (+42%), Honda (+28%) and Kia (+23%) also impressive. The Suzuki Swift, built in the country, is the best selling car in Hungary for the second year running despite already losing 13% year-on-year, frankly distancing the Skoda Fabia (-16%), Suzuki Ignis (-38%) and Opel Astra Classic (-33%), all losing significant ground. The Suzuki SX4 lands directly at #5.
