Turkey 2003-2004: Ford Transit and Renault Megane impress, sales spectacularly recover

The Renault Megane is the best-selling vehicle in Turkey in 2004.

After two devastated years, new light vehicle sales in Turkey rally back up 131.7% year-on-year in 2003 to 366,918 units. The brands order change again, with Ford (+150.9%) narrowly beating Renault (+173.8%) for the win with 15.6% share. Fiat (+90.4%), leader last year, falls to #3. Opel (+182.4%) overtakes Peugeot (+107.6%) for 4th place overall, with VW (+181.3%), Hyundai (+127.8%) and Toyota (+103%) in tow just as Honda (+101.4%) and Citroen (+100.5%) round out the Top 10. Seat (+224.1%) and Lada (+1079.6%) stand out below.

The Ford Transit (+78.7%) remains in the models pole position but sees its market share thaw from 8.3% last year to 6.4%. The Renault Megane (+281.3%) leaps up four spots to #2 ahead of the Renault Clio (+114.9%) and Fiat Doblo (+22.1%). The Ford Transit Connect (+449.4%) ends its first full year of sales at #5, distancing the Renault Kangoo (+214.4%) The Peugeot 307 (+185.2%) and Fiat Albea (+179.8%) both break into the Top 10 for the first time at #7 and #9 respectively. 

In 2004, the market continues its spectacular recovery with sales up a further 90.5% to 698,961, believed to be a new annual record for this market. Renault (+97.6%) is back in the brands lead with 16.1% share, displacing Ford (+89.9%) at 15.5%. Fiat (+74.6%) stays in third place above Hyundai (+211.9%) up three spots to #4. VW (+100%) is up one to #5 whereas Opel (+71.5%) drops two to #6. Honda (+103.1%) and Toyota (+102%) also beat the market in the remainder of the Top 10. Chevrolet makes its reappearance at #14 thanks to South Korea made models.

Model-wise, the Renault Megane (+103.1%) soars to 1st place with 6% of the market, distancing its little sister the Renault Clio (+94.3%). The Ford Transit (+49.4%) drops to third position, ahead of the Fiat Doblo (+106.1%), Ford Transit Connect (+84.8%) and Renault Kangoo (+71.7%). The Ford Focus (+120.3%), Hyundai Starex (+603.3%) and Accent (+184.7%) also shine below, with the Opel Astra (+68.7%) rounding out the Top 10.
