Ireland 1997: Ford and VW in charge in market up 18.7%
Ford is back to #1 brand in Ireland in 1997.
It’s a second consecutive double-digit gain for the Irish new car market with sales up a whopping 18.7% in 1997 to 136.662 units. Even though it trails the market, Ford (+12.3%) reclaims the top spot while VW-Audi (+35.7%) leaps up two spots to #2, relegating 1996’s leader Opel (-3.9%) to #3. Renault (+47.5%), Mazda (+29.9%) and Fiat (+23.2%) also outpace the market in the remainder of the Top 10 while Peugeot (+17.6%) and Nissan (+16.2%) almost match it.
