Canada 1996: Ford F-Series and Dodge Caravan top market up 1.6%
The Dodge Caravan is up to #2 in Canada in 1996.
New light vehicle sales in Canada edge up 1.5% year-on-year in 1996 to 1.175.761 units. Ford (+6.1%) once again outpaces the market to cross the 20% share milestone for the first time this decade at 20.5%, increasing the gap with #2 Chevrolet (-3.2%) to 5.6 percentage points. Dodge (+6.4%) improves to 11.9% of the Canadian market in third place. The next 5 brands hold onto their 1995 ranking, led by Pontiac (-1.1%) ahead of Toyota (+5.3%), GMC (+4.6%), Honda (+4.1%) and Plymouth (+2.1%). Nissan (+0.8%) overtakes Mercury (-18.4%) to rank #9 while Volkswagen (+12.9%) is up two spots to #11.
Model-wise, the Ford F-Series (+26.3%) threepeats at #1 with the Dodge Caravan (+20.3%) back to 2nd place for the 2nd time in the past 3 years, overtaking the Chevrolet Cavalier (-2%) again. The Chevrolet C/K Pickup (+12.2%) is up two spots on 1995 to make it 3 trucks in the Top 4. In fact the remainder of the Top 12 all outpace the market, with the Ford Escort (+27.6%), Dodge Ram (+27.2%), Toyota Corolla (+18%), Ford Windstar (+15.7%) and Plymouth Voyager (+13%) the most dynamic. The Honda Civic (+7.4%) reclaims the #2 passenger spot off the Pontiac Sunfire (+3.8%).
