China 1995: Growth slows down to +7.3%
The VW Santana 2000 has landed in China.
1,258,702 new vehicles found a buyer in China in 1995, a shy 7.3% year-on-year improvement. The Chinese market is showing signs of slowing down after gaining just 11% in 1994 vs. 44.3% in 1993. In any case, Volkswagen (+46.2%) widens the gap with the #2 FAW Tianjin (+13.8%) by vastly outpacing the market. FAW (+91.4%) climbs back up to #3, distancing BAW (+61.3%) and Yuejin (+46.5%). In fact Volkswagen is the only foreign marque in the Top 10 alongside Audi (+9%) at #10. The next best-selling foreigners are Mitsubishi (#17), Nissan (#18) and Isuzu (#19).
Over in the models ranking, the VW Santana (+10.8%) remains dominant and distances the BAW BJ2020/BJ6400 (+61.3%), Yuejin NJ1041/101 (+46.5%) and Foton Forland (+50.4%) in a ranking strong on Commercial Vehicles. #2 in 1994, the FAW Tianjin Xiali (+19%) is down to #5 this year despite outpacing the market. The Changan Star (+99%) and FAW CA1046 (+81.1%) also shine in the Top 10 as does the Hafei Carry (+98.1%). We welcome the VW Santana 2000 at #11.
