Ireland 1994: Ford and Opel top market up 25.3%
The Ford Fiesta climbs onto the Irish podium in 1994.
New car sales in Ireland finally get out of the rut they had been since the start of the decade with 1994 volumes shooting up 25.3% to 80.402. Ford (+37.6%) cements its domination of the brands charts by posting the largest year-on-year gain in the Top 5, while Opel (+34.5%) surfs on the success of the Astra (see further down) to topple Toyota (+21%) for the 2nd spot overall. Nissan (+15.6%) and VW-Audi (+20.7%) underperform but still round up the Top 5, while Renault (+44.9%), Fiat (+29.8%) and Rover (+108.2%) shine.
The Opel Astra and Toyota Corolla remain the best-selling vehicles in the country while the Ford Fiesta knocks the Toyota Carina off the podium, the Ford Mondeo is up 9 ranks to #7, the Opel Corsa up 3 to #8, the Citroen Xantia is up 24 to #19 and the Fiat Punto lands at #22.
