Denmark 1994: Toyota Carina takes the lead in market up 70%

Spectacular progression of the new car market in Denmark in 1994: up 70% year-on-year to 139,700 registrations! In this euphoric context, the Toyota Carina puts an end to the Opel Astra domination in the country, selling 9,635 units for a 6.9% share, up 86% on 1993. The Opel Astra drops to #2 at 8,872 units and 6.3%, just above the Ford Escort up 130% to #3 with 8,855 sales and the Ford Mondeo up 131% to #4 at 7,599 units. The Toyota Corolla rounds up the Top 5 with 7,596 sales.
It’s a very stable models ranking this year, notice the Citroen Xantia holding onto its 7th place at 3.6% share while the Fiat Punto lands directly at #8 with 4,977 sales and 3.6%. There are two Mazdas in the Danish Top 10 in 1994: the 626 is #9 (-1) and the 323 ranks #10 (+1). Other great performers include the Peugeot 306 up 154% to #12, the Opel Corsa up 111% to #14, the Peugeot 106 up 123% to #15, the VW Passat up 231% to #23. Notice also the Hyundai Pony up 99% to #27.
