Malaysia 1991: Proton Saga improves to 44.5% share

The Proton Saga improves to 44.5% market share at home in 1991.

New car sales in Malaysia gain 8% year-on-year in 1991 to 175.512 units. Local carmaker Proton (+20.5%) and its sole nameplate the Saga tighten the grip they have on their home market even further this year, to 44.5% share. This is to be compared with the 11% held by Toyota (+7.8%) and 10.1% by Nissan (-13.8%). Honda (+20.9%), Mazda (+24.8%) and Suzuki (+30.1%) shine in an Top 10 entirely Asian bar Ford (#5). Model-wise, below the Proton Saga the Nissan Vanette (-25.1%) holds onto the 2nd spot ahead of the Honda Accord (+33.2%), Ford Econovan (-28.4%), Toyota Liteace (-3.8%) and Nissan Sunny (+18.7%).
