Thanks to our partnership with SMMT we can share with you the Top 10 best-sellers for each UK nation in August. Keep in mind this is only a zoom in by nation, all sales figures are already included in the August UK update. England is the best-performing nation this month with a 5.8% year-on-year drop to 64.399 units, while Northern Ireland, down 9.3% to 3.647, Scotland down 10% to 5.827 and Wales down 10% to 2.242 all struggle. Year-to-date, England is down just 1.9% to 1.413.536, Scotland down 4.1% to 129.522, Northern Ireland down 5.5% to 39.580 and Wales is the hardest hit at -8.1% to 52.850.

The Citroen C3 ranks 4th in Northern Ireland.

Low volumes in August allow for some ranking reshuffles and the Vauxhall Mokka is the big winner this month, managing an astounding top spot in both Scotland and Wales while ranking #3 in England and #6 in Northern Ireland. The Ford Fiesta (England) and VW Golf (Northern Ireland) win the remaining nations. The two additional crossovers featuring in the August UK Top 10 are also very consistent performers: the Ford Kuga is #2 in Wales, #3 in Northern Ireland, #6 in England and #10 in Scotland while the Kia Sportage is #5 in Scotland, #6 in Wales, #7 in Northern Ireland and #10 in England. Other great performers in August include the Fiat 500 up to #2 in Scotland, the Citroen C3 up to #4 in Northern Ireland, the BMW X3 up to #7 in Scotland and the Ford Ka+ up to #9 in Wales.

Thanks to our partnership with SMMT we can now share with you the Top 10 best-sellers for each UK nation in July. Keep in mind this is only a zoom in by nation, all sales figures are already included in the UK update. Accounting for 88% of the total UK market, England (-9%) evolves very much like the UK overall, while Northern Ireland performs significantly better while staying in negative at -2.3%. Wales (-12.5%) and Scotland (-13.7%) implode. The models ranking reshuffle we witness in the UK charts is applied across the board: the Ford Fiesta does not win any nation, which are shared between the VW Golf (England and Northern Ireland) and the Ford Focus (Scotland and Wales). This shift is particularly marked in Wales where the Ford Fiesta traditionally is head-and-shoulders above the competition but freefalls 72% there this month.

In England indeed, by far the largest nation in terms of sales, the VW Golf manages to outsell the Ford Focus for the top spot, with the only other change compared to the UK ranking is the Mercedes A-Class above the Vauxhall Corsa at #8. The Kia Sportage justifies its record 6th place in the UK overall by a presence in the Top 10 of each and every nation: it ranks 6th in England, Northern Ireland and Wales and 4th in Scotland. The Ford Kuga is also strong: only missing the England Top 10 but ranking #2 in Wales and #5 in Northern Ireland. Other one-off performances include the Skoda Fabia #3 in Northern Ireland, the Seat Leon #4 in the same nation and the Audi A1 cracking the Scottish Top 10 for the first time since BSCB started following the UK nation separately in 2013.

Thanks to SMMT we can now share with you the Top 10 best-sellers for each UK nation in June. Keep in mind this is only a zoom in by nation, all sales figures are already included in the UK update. Overall UK sales are down 4.8% in June, both England (down 4.5% to 211.024 sales) and Northern Ireland (-3.7% to 5.721) better that rate, while Scotland (-5.7% to 18.892) and Wales (-10.9% to 7.152) fare worse. The big UK surprise is the very first pole position of the VW Golf, which confirms this ranking both in England and Northern Ireland. The Ford Fiesta snaps Scotland and Wales. Two nameplates fare particularly well across nations this month: #5 in the UK overall, the Mini ranks #5 in England, #2 in Northern Ireland, #3 in Scotland and #10 in Wales, pointing a rare four Top 10 rankings out of four nations. Also to be noticed is the Dacia Sandero up to #8 in Northern Ireland, up to #6 in Scotland where it now ranks #10 YTD and up to #5 in Wales. Finally, let’s single out the VW Tiguan up to #10 in Northern Ireland both this month and YTD.

Thanks to SMMT we can now share with you the Top 10 best-sellers for each UK nation in May. Keep in mind this is only a zoom in by nation, all sales figures are already included in the UK update. The overall UK market is down 8.6% but only one nation does better than this: England, down 7.6% to 161.619 registrations or 87% of the UK tally for May. Northern Ireland (-9.4%), Wales (-12.9%) and Scotland (-16.9%) all fall faster than the overall UK market this month and are all in negative year-to-date. England on the other hand is stable at 996.432 units so far in 2017 vs. 996.268 over the same period last year.

The Renault Kadjar is now #10 year-to-date in Northern Ireland.

The Ford Fiesta tops three out of four nations this month, with the VW Golf reclaiming the top spot it holds year-to-date in Northern Ireland. In England, the Mercedes C-Class is up to #5 instead of #8 overall in the UK and the Mercedes A-Class is up to #9 vs. #10. In Northern Ireland, Renault places the Kadjar at #7, the Captur at #9 and the Clio at #10, with the Kadjar breaking into the year-to-date Top 10. The Hyundai Tucson is down one spot on last month to #2. In Scotland, the Ford Fiesta is #1 for the firs time since last February with the Vauxhall Corsa down to #3 but still faraway leader year-to-date. The Renault Clio is strong at #5 and the Hyundai Tucson makes a rare appearance inside Top 10 at #10. Finally in Wales, the VW Polo shoots up to #2 and now rank #4 year-to-date, while the Dacia Sandero (#7) and Vauxhall Mokka X (#8) remain strong.

Thanks to SMMT we can now share with you the Top 10 best-sellers for each UK nation in April. Keep in mind this is only a zoom in by nation, all sales figures are already included in the UK update. After an all-time record month in March, April is down 20% overall in the UK. Both England (-19.3%) and Scotland (-17.5%) do slightly better than the market but Northern Ireland (-29.1%) and Wales (-30.6%) fare markedly worse and are now down year-to-date at -5.1% and -5.5% respectively vs. +1.6% for England and +1% for Scotland.

In England – where most UK fleet sales are registered – the Ford Fiesta holds onto the pole position by the skin of its teeth (213 units exactly) above the Nissan Qashqai while the Mercedes C-Class (#3), A Class (#4) also shine and the Audi A3 (#7), BMW 1 Series (#9) and 3 Series (#10) do better than in the overall UK ranking. In Northern Ireland, despite a 31% drop the Hyundai Tucson takes the lead of the sales charts while traditional #1 the Ford Fiesta is downy to a paltry #7. The Ford Focus (-13%) and Nissan Qashqai (+9%) complete the podium, with the Peugeot 108 making its first ever appearance inside the Northern Irish Top 10 at #8 and the Renault Kadjar strong at #10.

In Scotland, Vauxhall monopolises the podium with the Corsa and Astra in the lead, joined on the podium by the Mokka X which delivers its best Scottish ranking so far, beating the #7 reached last October. In Wales, the podium is 100% Ford with the Fiesta (-44%), Focus (-23%) and Kuga (-15%) in the lead. The Mercedes A-Class post its first Top 10 ranking in the time we’ve followed Wales at #7.

It’s an all-time record month in the UK and thanks to SMMT we can now share with you the Top 10 best-sellers for each UK nation in March. Keep in mind this is only a zoom in by nation, all sales figures are already included in the UK update. For once Northern Ireland leads the growth ladder with a 9.6% year-on-year improvement this month to 7.807. England (443.874) and Scotland (46.050) both follow at +8.7% while Wales only improves by 2.1%. The good news is that all nations are now in positive territory year-to-date: England up 6.8%, Scotland up 5.2%, Northern Ireland up 0.8% and Wales up 0.3%.

The Ford Fiesta ranks #1 in three out of four nations in March.

The Ford Fiesta reclaims Northern Ireland off the VW Golf which had held the top spot for 5 consecutive months before now, making it three victories out of four nations: England, Northern Ireland and Wales where it commands an imposing 8.4% share thanks to 1.666 sales. To get a perspective on how dominant March sales figures are in the the while of the UK, let’s point out the Fiesta score for March in Wales  is almost as much as the entire Welsh February sales (2.058).

The Seat Leon ranks #4 in Northern Ireland in February.

The only nation the Fiesta doesn’t win is Scotland, where the Vauxhall Corsa reigns as it has done so for the past few Full Year rankings, knocking the Fiesta down to #2. The Ford Focus manages to rank #2 in Wales and England and #3 in Scotland. Excellent performance of the Hyundai Tucson in Northern Ireland, bypassing the VW Golf to rank #2 overall, with other great performers this month including the Nissan Qashqai #3 in England, the Renault Captur #4 in Scotland, the Ford Kuga #4 in Wales and #5 in Northern Ireland and the Seat Leon #4 in Nothern Ireland. The Vauxhall Mokka X manages one Top 10 ranking: in Wales at #9.

After the overall UK Top 10 and thanks to SMMT we can now share with you the Top 10 best-sellers for each UK nation in January. Keep in mind this is only a zoom in by nation, all sales figures are already included in the UK update. As it has now become routine, England, representing 86% of the overall UK market, is the only nation in positive at +1.9% to 71.155 units, with Norther Ireland down 11.2% to 4.272, Scotland down 11.3% to 5.186 and Wales down a harsh 15.2% to 2.058. Year-to-date, England is up 2.9%, Scotland down 3.2%, Wales down 4% and Northern Ireland down 5.4%. After topping just two nations last month (England and Wales), the overall market leader, the Ford Fiesta, manages three wins in February: England, Scotland and Wales. The VW Golf brilliantly holds onto the top spot in Northern Ireland for the 5th consecutive month thanks to sales up 20% year-on-year.

The Ford Ecosport ranks 8th in Wales this month.

The Vauxhall Astra (#3 in the overall UK ranking) ranks #2 in Scotland, #3 in England but #10 in Northern Ireland and ousted the Welsh Top 10. The Ford Focus for its part – the UK #4 in February, is 2nd in Wales, 3rd in Scotland, 4th in England and 5th in Northern Ireland. Other outstanding performers in the UK nations for the month include the Mercedes C-Class up 61% to #5 in England, the Hyundai Tucson at #3 in Northern Ireland and the Vauxhall Mokka X positing two Top 10 rankings for the second month running: in Wales (record #5) and Scotland (#8).

After the overall UK Top 10 and thanks to SMMT we can now share with you the Top 10 best-sellers for each UK nation in January. Keep in mind this is only a zoom in by nation, all sales figures are already included in the UK update. Once again England is solely responsible for the 2.9% gain across the UK with registrations up 3.3% to 149.482, representing 85.9% of all sales. In contrast, Wales (+0.9% to 5.641) and Scotland (+0.5% to 12.842) only edge up year-on-year while Northern Ireland drops 0.9% to 6.134. Even though the Ford Fiesta is comfortably in the lead of the overall sales charts, the picture is quite different when looking at each nation and the Fiesta only tops its two surefire nations: England and Wales. The VW Golf, #2 overall, is king in Northern Ireland while the Vauxhall Astra posts the surprise of the month with a Nb. 1 spot in Scotland, the first time it ranks that high here since BSCB has started following each nation separately at the start of the decade.

The Dacia Sandero ranks 4th in Scotland and 5th in Wales.

As is traditionally the case, the interesting developments happen in the smaller market of the union, with the English ranking only offering the Nissan Juke above the Vauxhall Astra at #5 as its only change from the overall UK charts. In Scotland, the Dacia Sandero builds on the 2nd place it held last October and its 3rd spot from December to lodge a stellar 4th place, also ranking 5th in Wales. The Vauxhall Mokka X breaks into the Welsh monthly Top 10 for the first time at #8, and for the second time after last October in Scotland at #10. The Mercedes C-Class, UK hero of the month at a record-breaking 4th place, also posts its 2nd Top 10 ranking this decade in Scotland at #9 alongside the #10 it hit back in February 2015. The Hyundai Tucson, already #3 in Northern Ireland both this month and over the FY2016, points its bonnet among Wales’ 10 favourites for the first time in January at #9, and finally the VW Tiguan does the same in Northern Ireland at #10.
