Thanks to NismoBoy I can now share with you detailed sales data about Paraguay for the first 9 months of 2012. Overall the Paraguayan new car market is up a healthy 6% year-on-year to 22,401 registrations. Thanks to NismoBoy I can share with you for the first time on Best Selling Cars Blog official Top 10 models and Top 30 brands ranking. Over the Full Year 2011, the Paraguayan new car market is up a whopping 45% to 29,392 registrations. Chevrolet has lost its #1 spot: with 13.5% of the market in 2011 it is passed this year by Kia at 14.5%, with Hyundai in third place at 10.5%. Notice Great Wall at #14 with1.4%, DongFeng at #18 with 1% and BYD at #19 with 0,9%. Geely, Chery, JMC and Jinbei also manage to rank within the Top 30.

Kia Rio

Model-wise, the Toyota Hilux is head and shoulders above the competition with 1,913 sales and 6.5%. Paraguay is estimated to be the 35th country in the world where the Toyota Hilux is #1 in 2011!… The Kia Rio previous generation is the best-selling passenger car in Paraguay this year at 1,525 units and 5.2% share. Another pick-up, the Nissan Frontier, rounds up the podium with 1,473 sales and 5%.

Chevrolet Agile

Excellent start for the Chevrolet Agile up to #4 at 1,287 units and 4.4% for its first full year of sales, followed by the VW Gol at 3.9% and the Chevrolet S10 at 3.7%. Notice also the new generation Kia Sportage clawing its way into the Top 10 at #10 with 723 sales and 2.5% share. Interestingly, no trace of the Chevrolet Classic which dominated sales in Paraguay a few years ago…

Paraguay 2011: Chevrolet Classic & Fiat Siena could be on top

* Thanks to Seba & Pablo, I can now shed more light on the Paraguayan car market! *

Chevrolet Classic

No official data available for Paraguay, only that Chevrolet dominates and should be placing the Chevrolet Classic in the first place of the models ranking. Looking at the streets of the capital Asuncion, the Fiat Siena also seems to be among the best-sellers, however the current generation is nowhere to be seen on Fiat Paraguay’s website. Strange. The VW Gol and Kia Rio are also popular.

Fiat Siena

Paraguay is land-locked, and an interesting fact about Paraguayan car sales is that 65% of used car imports arriving at Iquique, Chile are exported directly to Paraguay. That’s more than 43,000 cars over the last 12 months, however the rhythm has increased to 1,000 imports per day lately! 80% of theses used cars are right-hand drive Japanese models, therefore supposedly unfit for Paraguyan roads. Again, strange.
