It’s a good year for new light vehicle sales in Paraguay: up 9% on 2013 to 30,691 deliveries, however the last two months of 2014 were a little worrisome: down 14% in November and down 36% in December, which doesn’t bode too well for 2015. Korean imports rule the roost here with 31% of the market. Hyundai is the best-selling brand by far, improving its market share by almost two percentage points in 2014 thanks to sales up 20% year-on-year to 6,052 units and 19.7% share. Kia does similarly well: up 21% to snap the 2nd spot off Toyota (+5%) at 4,784 sales and 15.9% share. Chevrolet, Volkswagen and Nissan, up a fantastic 141% on 2013, follow.
In the models ranking, the Toyota Hilux remains the main popular vehicle in Paraguay for at least the 4th consecutive year but sees its market share drop by one percentage point to just below 10%. The Kia Rio remains in 2nd place with 6.4% while the Hyundai i10 jumps on the podium thanks to sales up 134% on 2013, knocking its twin the Kia Picanto down to #4. The VW Gol (+45%), Kia Sportage (+55%), Hyundai Tucson (+21%), Nissan Frontier (+138%) and Hyundai Santa Fe (+89%) also impress.
