It’s a very dynamic year for the Lithuanian new car market in 2015, up 18% year-on-year to 17.071 registrations, however keep in mind roughly 20-30% of all new cars registered in Lithuania are immediately re-exported to other European Union markets due to their low selling price here. Fiat beats the market (+29%) to cement its leadership position in Lithuania with 15.9% share, and in fact all the Top 6 best-selling brands improve their share, with Volkswagen (14.9%) and Toyota ((11.1%) rounding up the podium and Opel (+42%) displaying the largest year-on-year gains. Model-wise, the Fiat 500 flies off to a spectacular 12.7% market share thanks to sales up 34% to 2.168 units, a long way above the Skoda Octavia (+35%), Nissan Qashqai (+19%) and VW Passat (+103%).

New car sales in Lithuania are up by a whopping 27% year-on-year in July to 1.194 registrations, lifting the year-to-date total to 11.183 units, up 16% on 2014. After hitting 22.6% market share in July, Fiat remains on top this month but falls down to 16.5%, only 11 units above Volkswagen at 15.6%. Toyota (11.4%), Nissan (9.5%) and Skoda (6.5%) all see their July ranking unchanged. Opel is back inside the Lithuanian Top 10 with a vengeance at #6 with 4.9% share. One thing to bear in mind for Lithuania is the fact that new car sales are significantly biased by re-exports to other European Union countries and shouldn’t therefore be taken too literally. The Fiat 500 should in all likelihood keeps the models pole position in Lithuania over the period, not that it would be the most frequent car on Lithuanian roads however.
