For the first time in eight years, there is no all-time annual record for the Danish new car market in 2017, with December sales (down 15% due to postponed purchases in the wake of registrations tax reforms) single-handedly pulling the market into negative for the year at -0.5% to 221.818 units. This is still the second best annual score ever in Denmark’s history. Moreover, new “green” tax rebates should propel the 2018 market to new record heights. Volkswagen posts a record year at +12% to just under 30.000 sales and 13.3% share vs. 11.8% in 2016, vastly outselling Peugeot (+0.1%), Toyota (+1%), Renault (-0.1%) and Opel (-5%). Only Suzuki (+25%) and Mercedes (+16%) also manage a double-digit gain inside the Top 10, while below, Alfa Romeo (+156%), Land Rover (+98%), Jaguar (+43%), Nissan (+31%) and Volvo (+10%) impress.

Model-wise, the Peugeot 208 posts a second consecutive year on top and gains 5% year-on-year to 9.800 units, with the VW Up (-2%) staying in second place. The VW Up remains to this day the only nameplate to have sold over 10.000 units in a single year in Denmark (in 20122013 and 2014). Three solid gainers follow: the Nissan Qashqai (+61%) snapping its first ever monthly win in November, the VW Golf (+39%) and Renault Clio (+8%), knocking down the Toyota Yaris (-7%), VW Polo (-20%) and Toyota Aygo (-13%). Both the VW Passat (+5%) and Citroen C1 (+18%) leap into the Top 10. Further down, notice the VW Touran (+30%), Peugeot 2008 (+100%), Suzuki Baleno (+71%), Peugeot 3008 (+304%), Mercedes A-Class (+29%), Opel Insignia (+101%), Suzuki SX4 (+80%), BMW 4 Series (+58%) and VW Tiguan (+283%) all post spectacular gains in the Top 50.
