South Africa August 2017: Nissan up 40%, Hilux lead in market up 6.5%

New vehicle sales up 6.5% in August to 49.222 mean the South African market is now in positive year-to-date at +0.6% to 366.316 units. Toyota (+4%) remains by far the most popular manufacturer in the country ahead of the Volkswagen Group (-5%) and Ford (+18%) while Nissan soars 40% in 4th place and Hyundai-Kia (-2%) rounds up the Top 5. In fact, the Top 16 manufacturers are unchanged on July, with Renault (+42%), Suzuki (+99%) and Great Wall (+585%) the most dynamic. Model-wise, the Toyota Hilux (+10%) confirms its newly reacquired #1 status over the Ford Ranger (+15%) with the VW Polo Vivo (-12%) and Polo (-0.4%) in tow as per the YTD order. The Nissan NP200 (+23%), Toyota Quantum (+18%) and Nissan NP300 Hardbody (+45%) sign the largest year-on-year gains inside the Top 10 while the all-new Renault Kwid stabilises at #15. The Ford Everest (+362%), Figo (+173%), Hyundai Tucson (+208%) and Nissan Almera (+537%) also shine.
