New car sales in Kuwait stumble down 26% in 2016 to 115.043 registrations, with Toyota still faraway leader with exactly one in three new vehicles sold in the country this year (33.2% share) despite a 32% fall. In second place, Nissan also crumbles faster than the market at -35% to fall below the symbolic 10% market share milestone at 9.8%. Mitsubishi (-23%) resists better in third place, but not as well as Chevrolet (-8%) up two spots to #4 and knocking Kia (-26%) down to #5, only 6 units above sister-brand Hyundai up almost one percentage point of market share at 7%. Lexus manages to maintain its volume just above 5.000 units, resulting in a market share improved to 4.4% vs. 3.2% in 2015. Mazda (+2%), Peugeot (+2%), Honda (+3%), Jaguar (+13%), Ram (+40%), Geely (+57%), Lincoln (+90%), Acura (+100%), SAIC (+109%) and Volvo (+559%) are among the rare carmakers displaying a year-on-year volume gain in Kuwait.
Perennial leader in Kuwait, the Toyota Prado trusts the #1 spot for the 6th consecutive year despite deliveries down 27% to 11.185. The Toyota Camry (-21%) gains one spot to overtake the Toyota Hilux (-48%), the Toyota Land Cruiser (-16%) is also up one to #4 just as the Mitsubishi Pajero (-7%) and Nissan Patrol (+1%) both jumps two ranks to #5 and #6 respectively, eclipsing the Toyota Corolla (-42%). Great performers include the Hyundai Santa Fe (+7%), Kia Sportage (+13%), Kia Optima (+22%) and Lexus RX (+56%). The Hyundai Creta (#34) leads recent newcomers far above the Mitsubishi Montero Sport (#128), Jaguar F-Pace (#146) and the Cadillac XT5 (#147).
