Finnish new car sales are up 8% year-on-year in January to 12.653 registrations and it’s a great start of the year for Toyota, up 24% to overtake 2016 leader Volkswagen (+3%) and snap up the top spot at 11.9% share. Skoda (+15%) and Volvo (+23%) shine inside the Top 5 with Mercedes (+18%), BMW (+20%), Nissan (+20%) and Kia (+35%) also impressive. Further down, Suzuki (+39%), Lexus (+43%) and Tesla (+160%) stand out. In the models aisle, the Skoda Octavia (+53%) and Nissan Qashqai (+40%), last year’s top two best-sellers, start the year all guns blazing followed by the Opel Astra (+29%) and VW Golf (+14%). The VW Tiguan shoots up 7-fold on January 2016 to break into the Top 10 vs. #43 over the Full Year 2016, but the most impressive entrances inside this month’s Finnish Top 30 are the Volvo V90 at #11 and the Volvo S90 at #29, adding up to 384 combined sales. Notice also the Toyota C-HR landing at #25, a ranking that should improve drastically over the coming months.
