New vehicle sales in South Africa are down 10% year-on-year in November to 46.413 units, pulling the market down 11% year-to-date at 505.876. Toyota remains the best-selling manufacturer despite sales down 15% to 10.088, followed by Ford (+6%), the Volkswagen Group (-14%), Hyundai-Kia (+8%) and Nissan (+9%). The BMW Group (+7%), Mazda (+8%), Volvo Trucks (+11%) and Mahindra (+33%) also manage a sales increase inside the Top 15.
In the models ranking, the Ford Ranger posts a stunning 41% year-on-year gain to 3.680 sales and 7.9% share vs. a harsh 37% drop and 2.492 for its archenemy the Toyota Hilux, which however retains the YTD lead at 32.354 (-2%) vs. 29.803 (-4%) for the Ranger. The VW Polo (-14%), Toyota Corolla (-32%) and VW Polo Vivo (-12%) follow and all decline. The Chevrolet Utility (+35%), Nissan NP300 Hardbody (+74%) and Toyota Fortuner (+117%) shine, the Hyundai Tucson is up a further 4 spots to #15 but the big event this month is the landing of the Renault Kwid directly inside the Top 20 even before its official launch scheduled for early December. The small Frenchie, already a tremendous success in India, ranks #18 with over 1% of the South African market already.
