The Omani new light vehicle market is down 21% year-on-year over the first 7 months of 2016 to 91.318 registrations. Toyota continues to account for more than 1 in every 2 sales in the country but sees its market share thaw to 52% from 54.2% a year ago due to sales down 24%. Reversely, Hyundai (+2%), Lexus (+4%) and Isuzu (+9%) all gain ground inside the Top 5 whereas Nissan crumbles down 33%. Chevrolet (+3%) and Jeep (+48%) are the only other carmakers displaying positive results within the 20 best-sellers. Toyota logically monopolises the Top 5 best-selling models charts but four of them fall even faster than the market: the Hilux remains the market leader despite deliveries down 29% and is followed by the Land Cruiser Pickup (-30%), Land Cruiser SW (-31%), Prado (-34%) and Corolla (-13%). The Hyundai Elantra, up 11%, is the most popular non-Toyota in Oman at #6. Notice the Hyundai Sonata up 92% to #10, the Toyota Fortuner up 39% to #15 and the Nissan D22 Pickup up 51% to #20, The Hyundai Creta lands at a cool 23rd spot with 792 sales so far this year.
