Exclusive to BSCB, after exploring in detail brands data for über-wealthy Monaco, we can now share with you the best-selling models in the Principality, always a unique charts given the exceptional disposable income of its inhabitants. This year the ranking is completely reshuffled. The Smart Fortwo takes full advantage of its facelift to soar 86% year-on-year and snap the pole position with 117 sales and 4.1% share, with the Brabus tailored variant off to a great start. It is followed by the Porsche Macan also posting outstanding results with deliveries up 78% to 3.4% share. Last year’s leader, the Mini, drops 13% to third place, tying with the Porsche 911 (+7%). The Audi A3 and A1 round up the Top 5.
The Porsche Macan is up 78% to land at an incredible 2nd place overall.
The Cayenne (+9%) makes it three Porsches in the Monaco Top 7, a feat the prestige manufacturer only manages in Monaco. Mercedes does even better: it places no less than 8 nameplates in the Top 30: the A-Class and S-Class are within the Top 10, followed by the C-Class, E-Class, B-Class, GLA, V-Class and CLA. Land Rover has the Range Rover Sport, RR Evoque and Range Rover all inside the Top 15.
The Rolls-Royce Wraith sells almost as well as the Renault Clio…
Bentley manages to insert its Continental among the Principalty’s 20 most popular nameplates with 1.3% market share. The Bentley Flying Spur, Maserati Ghibli and Rolls-Royce Wraith also land inside the Top 35, while Ferrari manages to place the California T at #43 and the 458 Speciale at #46. For its part the extravagant Mercedes AMG GT surges 650% on 2014 to #45 with 15 sales.
The Mercedes AMG GT ranks inside the Top 50.
Although the Principality is nestled within France, there are no Renault, Peugeot nor Citroen dealerships in Monaco: if you absoluitely have to lower yourselves to the mimic the tastes of the masses, you will need to trek to France, purchase your frail car there, then register it in the Principality. As such, don’t expect to find any French car in the Top 30 this year, with the Renault Clio the best of a very weak lot at #32 ahead of the Peugeot 208 (#37), Peugeot 308 (#40), Renault Scenic (#58) and Captur (#59). This means the Renault Clio only outsells the Rolls Royce Wraith by one unit in 2015…
