New car sales in New Caledonia, an overseas French territory located north-east of Australia, rebound up 18% year-on-year in May to 698 deliveries, however the year-to-date total is still frankly in negative territory at 3.010 registrations, down 16% on the same period in 2015. Peugeot leads the brands charts thanks to sales doubling year-on-year to a round 100 units and 14.3% share, distancing Dacia at 12.8% (+82%) and Ford at 10.3% (+9%). Ford remains in pole position year-to-date at 11.6% above Peugeot (11%) and Dacia (9.8%). Toyota is up 85% at #4, Renault up 45% at #5, Subaru up 50%, BMW up 56%, Hyundai up 67%, Mazda up 88% and Mitsubishi up 100%.

We may be on the verge of a significant shift in the models ranking: thanks to 60 sales and 8.6% in May, the Dacia Duster cements its year-to-date leadership at 172 units vs. 149 for the Ford Ranger at #2 and 134 for the Ford Fiesta at #3. If the Duster maintains this #1 spot until the end of 2016, it would be the first time in 8 years that the Ranger isn’t the overall best-seller in New Caledonia. Note also the excellent performance of the Subaru XV so far this year: #9 year-to-date vs. #22 in FY15.
