The Italian new car market finishes 2015 on a high: up a very dynamic 18% year-on-year in December to 109.395 registrations, lifting the annual total up 16% to 1.583.618 units. Home-grown behemoth Fiat frankly outpaces the market with sales up an outstanding 33% to 23.440 and 21.4% share, distancing Volkswagen (+13%), Renault (+33%), Ford (+25%) and Peugeot (+41%). Lancia and Hyundai are both up 5 spots on November to #8 and #9 respectively, with Mini (+32%), Honda (+40%), Land Rover (+41%), Lexus (+41%), Suzuki (+64%) and Mazda (+81%) among the other manufacturers posting spectacular gains.
The Fiat Tipo nameplate is back inside the Italian Top 50.
Model-wise, below the Fiat Panda (+22%) and Lancia Ypsilon (+24%) both showing great legs, the Fiat 500X shows it is here to stay at the highest level, lodging a second consecutive podium ranking at #3 and beating its market share record at 3.5% thanks to 3.832 sales. With the Fiat 500L up 32% to 4th place and the Fiat 500 up 49% to 8th, it’s a great month for the 500 family as a whole: up 126% year-on-year to 9.910 sales and 9.1% market share. Interestingly, this coincides with the gearing up of the Tipo nameplate, breaking back into the Top 50 at #45, and the imploding of the Punto, down 46% to a worst-ever 2.2% share and #10 ranking this month.
The BMW X1 almost lands into the Top 30 this month: a fantastic performance.
Further down, notice also the Citroen C3 up 110% to #15, the Peugeot 308 up 151% to #20, the Hyundai Tucson up a further 5 spots on November to #22, the Renault Kadjar up 16 to #27, the Ford Ecosport up 137% to #30, the BMW X1 up 162% to #32 and the all-new Suzuki Vitara improving a further 7 ranks to #43.
