Traditionally the slowest month of the year in Taiwan, August sees new car sales drop 1% year-on-year to 22.918 registrations, the culprit being Toyota lodging a surprisingly weak result: down 12% on August 2014 to 4.726 sales and 20.6% vs. 33.7% in July and 28.7% year-to-date. Reversely, Mitsubishi (+11%), Nissan (+19%) and Honda (+25%) all post significant year-on-year gains, with Ford (-12%), Mercedes (-1%) and BMW (+11%) following. Model-wise, the Toyota Corolla keeps its throne by far but is a lot weaker than usual at 6.4% share vs. 9.9% year-to-date. It is followed by the Toyota RAV4 and Nissan Tidda, with the Ford Focus the best performer of the month: up 11 spots on July to an outstanding 4th position with 2.8% share, potentially the result of runout deals in the wake of the facelifted model reaching Taiwanese shores. Notice also the Nissan X-Trail up to #6, the Mercedes E-Class at #19 and the Luxgen M7 Turbo at #22.
