New vehicle sales in Vietnam are all guns blazing this year: up a massive 45% year-on-year in October to 14,938 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 121,648 deliveries, up 40% on 2013. Note this figure includes medium and heavy commercial vehicles, and brands not reported by VAMA, the local Automotive Association. Toyota is master in command in the brands ranking with 27.7% of the market in October and 26.2% YTD, local manufacturer Thaco is #2 followed by Ford (10.3%), Kia (6.9%) and Mazda (6.8%). In the models ranking, the Toyota Vios, boosted by a very successful new generation, cements its YTD leadership with 941 sales and 6.3% share in October, adding up to 7,147 YTD vs. 6,901 for the Toyota Fortuner. It’s not over yet, but if the Vios was to confirm and grab the FY2014 top spot it would be a first for the nameplate in Vietnam.
