Ireland September 2014: Nissan Pulsar lands in Top 20

We are now entering a time of year when the Irish traditionally stop buying new cars and wait until the new year to start again so they can get a shiny new 2015 licence plate. As such we have only 3,916 new registrations in Ireland in September, which is still a very robust 24% year-on-year improvement, in line with the 30% year-to-date progression over 2013 at 93,183 units. Even though the market shrunk compared to the past few months, the brands ranking is very stable with Volkswagen, Toyota and Ford in the lead like year-top-date, BMW up to a fantastic 9.7% share in 4th place, Mercedes at #12, Mini at #20 and Dacia selling more than both Peugeot and Citroen in 13th place.

The VW Golf reclaims the pole position it holds year-to-date thanks to 163 sales and 4.2% share, while the Ford Fiesta is back up 8 spots on August to a splendid 2nd place at 4% share, ahead of  its big sis the Ford Focus. Another outstanding month for the BMW 3 Series at #4 vs. #29 year-to-date, the 5 Series at #8 vs. #18, and while we are at BMW, the X1 shoots up to #45 vs. #114 year-to-date and both the 2 Series and 4 Series break into the Irish Top 50 for the first time at equal #46.

8 years after the Almera disappeared, the Pulsar is Nissan’s new compact hatchback and it lands directly in 18th place this month. Granted, it only took 55 sales to achieve this. The Nissan X-Trail also impresses at #24 vs. #104 thanks to the new model as does the Mini boosted up to #36 vs. #78 so far in 2014 by its third generation. Leader last month, the Dacia Duster is down to #29 but still ranks at a very satisfying #17 year-to-date.
