August marks the second month of the ProCreAuto program, an aid to the purchase for new local cars with credits from the Banco Nación   launched by the Argentinean government to boost flailing new car sales in the country. And the results so far are disappointing: instead of reviving sales, the program seems to have had no impact at all with the Argentinean new car market down 30% year-on-year in August to 56,953 units, bringing the year-to-date total to 499,044 registrations, down 25% on 2013. With a smaller market comes more volatility and this is also true in the brands ranking: Volkswagen is back up two spots on July to reclaim the pole position it holds year-to-date in spite of sales down 37% on August 2013, and it is followed this month by Chevrolet (-28%), Ford (-8%), Fiat (-21%) and Renault (-39%). Toyota bucks the trend with a beautiful 35% year-on-year increase mainly due to the great performances of the Etios (#11) and Corolla (#15).

The Renault Clio Mio manages to top the models ranking for the 2nd month in a row thanks to 2,834 sales and 5% share and is now #2 year-to-date at 18,499 units and 3.7% (vs. #4 one month ago). The Chevrolet Classic, #1 over the Full Year 2013, is back up to #2 with 2,561 units and 4.5% but still ranks at a low #6 year-to-date. First incursion in the Argentinean podium for the Ford Focus III at 2,418 sales and 4.2%, great show of the VW Suran up 4 ranks to #8, of the VW Up up 8 to #28 and of the Honda City up 12 to #32.
