Ukraine: 1970-2023 Historical Info now available

1966 ZAZ 966 – ZAZ dominated Ukrainian sales for almost 50 years.

Historical info spanning the past five decades is now available for Ukraine on BSCB! For the 19701991 period, the data is for USSR which Ukraine belonged to then, Lada models were selling strongly alongside the local ZAZ sedans we estimate were the best-sellers as they only had success in this part of the USSR. For the first decade of independence of Ukraine from 1991 onwards we do not have any models information so if you do, please ensure you get in touch by commenting on this post.

The Sens was the last ZAZ to rank #1 in Ukraine, in 2013.

From 2006 onwards, data starts to trickle down to become full-blown all-models data from 2011 on. Local carmaker ZAZ which later moved on assemble Chevrolets and Cherys in the country still managed to top the models ranking 7 times between 2006 and 2013: the Lanos was #1 for 6 consecutive years from 2006 to 2011 and the Sens (a Lanos twin) took the highest honours in 2013 but that was the last of the ZAZ-dominated years.

The Kia Sportage has topped the annual Ukrainian charts 4 times between 2016 and 2021.

Since, the Ukrainian market has diversified greatly, with the Skoda Octavia topping the sales charts in 2012, followed by the Renault Logan in 2015, the Kia Sportage in 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2021, the Renault Duster in 2018 and the Toyota RAV4 in 2020. Brand-wise, Toyota and Chinese carmaker Geely were the best-sellers in 2014, with the Japanese manufacturer holding onto the top spot all the way up to 2018. Renault managed to snap its very first annual Ukrainian win in 2019 but gave back the trophy to Toyota in 2021.
