New car sales in Europe (EU+EFTA countries) are up a very healthy 8% year-on-year in February to 894,790 registrations, the 6th consecutive month of year-on-year gain and bringing the 2014 year-to-date total after two months to 1,862,597 units, up 6% on 2013. All major markets are up except France, which is paradoxical as two French manufacturers deliver some of the best performances in the Top 10 this month. Below Volkswagen unattainable at 106,723 sales and 11.9% share (-1%), Renault is up two spots on January and its FY2013 ranking to land in 2nd place with 60,682 units and 6.8% (+4%) while Peugeot remains third at 59,661 sales and 6.7% (+7%), also two ranks above its 2013 level.

Dacia Lodgy Europe February 2014Dacia Lodgy. Dacia delivers the biggest year-on-year gain this month at +34%.

Below, Ford and Opel/Vauxhall progress faster year-on-year (+11% and +16% respectively) but remain below their 2013 rankings #4 and #5 vs. #2 and #3 respectively. Audi is in great shape, up 12% to 6th place with 48,589 sales and 5.4% share, as are Skoda (+21%), Toyota (+14%), Dacia (+34%), Seat (+16%), Suzuki (+31%), Mazda (+22%) and Mitsubishi (+19%).

    James, James, James (or whatever your name is, i assume something french) you must forgive me, but i trust more the verdict of a prestigious institution like carsguide than your
    subjective feelings, so in this case i am rather a carsguide-addict ! :)

    @Lucas
    Yes, i am very sad, because i like cars and unfortunately the mentioned Renault Captur seems not to be a good one. Read this verdict:

    “The Captur looks great and is good fun, but it’s not for people who like to drive.”

    Source: http://www.carsguide.com.au/news-and-reviews/car-reviews-road-tests/renault_captur_review

    So yes, there is indeed reason for sadness.

    It is true, March is the biggest sales month for the UK it will be interesting to see what will happen, I would not write off Peugeot and Renault, the Clio IV is becoming more popular, Dacia seem to be really taking off here, everybody loves a bargain, Mazda, Skoda and Seat are doing very well this year, Volkswagen’s market share has slipped a bit, there is a long way to go.

    The Renault Captur looks really fantastic. Love it!

    Renault and Peugeot are on the podium only because february is traditionally a weak month for british market. In march car sales in the UK will be highest in whole Europe so it will give a huge impact for Ford and Opel/Vauxhaull – in sales figures for march these two brands will be on the podium.

    Hello Matt, you are the best !

    Its my first comment. Im a Mercedes fan and i hope the new C class will push Benz forward this year. Im happy seeing Peugeot and Renault in podium.

    Audi maybe sells more than Mercedes but we all know the Price you can buy an Audi these days. My uncle has an 2013 A3 and he told me he could buy it 5000euro less than the original price.

    not good in english. compliment Matt
