For only the 4th time in the last 4 years, the Mexican new car marker is (shock, horror!) down year-on-year albeit by a meagre 0.3% in February to 79,938 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 165,442 units, still up 0.6% on 2013. Brand-wise, Mexico is still Nissan territory, with the Japanese carmaker holding a 25.7% market share this month, followed by Chevrolet at 18.4%, Volkswagen at 15.8% and Ford at 7.7%. The Chevrolet Aveo keeps the lead of the models ranking in spite of sales down 9% on February 2013 to 4,452 units and 5.6% share.

The antediluvian Nissan Tsuru resists valiantly in 2nd place, up 10% to 3,895 sales and 4.9%, followed closely by the Nissan Versa. But the big event this month is the arrival of the all-new VW Vento (aka VW Polo Sedan) inside the Mexican Top 5 for the very first time at #4 with 2,820 sales and 3.5%, passing the Nuevo Jetta and Clasico to become the brand’s best-seller in the country only a few months into its launch in Mexico… Notice also the Nissan March up 87% to #8 and the Chevrolet Trax up 59% to #12.
