New car sales in Mexico are up 7% year-on-year in February to 80,193 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 164,462 units, up 10% on 2012. This means the Mexican market has been up year-on-year every single month in the last 3 years bar one: December 2012 (-4%)… In fact, this is the first time since December 2008 that Mexican sales top 1 million over a rolling 12 months period. Exciting times ahead indeed. No surprise in pole position: the Chevrolet Aveo leads the way for the 15th consecutive time with 4,869 sales and 6.1%. In fact, the entire Top 5 is unchanged compared to last month and the Full Year 2012 ranking: the Nissan Versa is #2 ahead of the VW Clasico, Nissan Tsuru and VW Nuevo Jetta.

The Chevrolet Spark is back up 4 spots on January to land in 6th place thanks to 2,572 units and 3.2%, its highest market share in the country since last May. The Nissan Sentra continues to lodge one impressive month after the other now that the new generation of the model is here: it is up 55% year-on-year to #7 with 2,341 sales and 2.9%. Finally, notice the Chevrolet Sonic stable at #11, the Chevrolet Trax grabbing an excellent 1.3% market share once again and the Renault Duster just below 1%.

What’s the matter with the Nissan March?
After selling almost 3000 units in December ’12, it was off the list in January and reappears timidly in February.
Was production stopped or slowed down?
Apparently, very few units were available. We had to wait over 5 weeks to get ours. Ordered in january, finally delivered in march…

Yes I know, they were meant as two separate comments – I meant Fiat must be pleased with its own increase in sales. +122%.
But I see how you could read my comments differently. ;o)

Another solid month for SEAT. Fiat must be pleased with such an increase. Not so good for Alfa however..
