New car sales in France over the first 18 days of February are down 4% year-on-year, and Peugeot still maintains the lead of the brands ranking for now thanks to 12,212 sales (-3%) while Citroen flamboyantly reclaims the #2 spot off Renault at 10,540 units vs. 10.451. Volkswagen (-17%), Dacia (+2%) and Toyota (+22%) follow. Model-wise, the Peugeot 208 continues to widen the gap with the Renault Clio IV with 3,663 sales vs. 3,010 but the big event over the period is the arrival of the Citroen C4 Picasso onto the podium at #3 with 2,652 units, up 40% on its predecessor’s score one year ago.

In fact the next 3 models also display very impressive year-on-year growth: the Citroen C3 is up by a huge 52% to #4, keeping in mind at the same time last year its French factory was starting to experience difficulties due to workers going on strike. Boosted by the new generation, the Peugeot 308 is up 33% to #5 and 2,215 sales while the Dacia Sandero gets the prize of the biggest year-on-year improvement at +61% to #6. The VW Golf leads foreign models at #67 and the Peugeot 2008 is up to #8 while the Renault Captur isn’t yet inside the Top 10.
