Sales of new Kei cars are up a massive 25% year-on-year in September in Japan to 198,445 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 1,606,195 units, up 2% on 2012. Kei cars are always forgotten or not taken seriously in the car world but imagine for a minute that it was the only type of car available in Japan, well it would still be inside the Top 10 markets in the world, well ahead of France or Italy! This month the Honda N-Box confirms it is the tough guy this year by ranking #1 once again thanks to sales up 19% year-on-year to 22,723 units and bringing its year-to-date total to 178,757. The Daihatsu Move is up 70% but remains #2 at 19,123 sales while the Daihatsu Mira is up 2 spots on August to #3 at 17,353 units. The Nissan Dayz is back up to #5 while the Suzuki Spacia is down to #6.
