The Taiwanese new car market is up a fantastic 32% year-on-year in September to 28,941 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 272,542 units, now down just 0.7% on 2012. The changover between two generations of Toyota Corolla Altis, with the new one due for Taiwanese release on October 7, has turned the models ranking upside down this month: the Nissan Tiida takes advantage of the situation to grab the pole position even though its September market share is only identical to its year-to-date one at 4.7% with 1,354 sales. Only 22 units below we have the Nissan Livina while for its part the Toyota RAV4 is only 36 sales off the top spot…
Down to 4th place this month at 1,213 units and 4.2%, the Toyota Corolla however maintains a unattainable lead year-to-date with 25,245 sales and 9.3% and should reclaim the top of the Taiwanese sales charts next month. Another model that has benefitted from the Corolla’s wobbly transition is the Toyota Vios, up 5 spots on August to #6 and 3.8% share vs. 2.2% year-to-date, even though the model produced and sold in Taiwan is still the 2002 one, two generations ago. Notice also the Ford Kuga down 6 ranks to a still excellent #15, the Mercedes E-Class stable at #18, BMW 5 Series up to #21, Lexus IS up 8 spots to #34, Porsche Cayenne up to #43 and the Audi A3 making a rare appearance inside the Top 50 at #48.
