The good news continue for the UK new car market: it lodges its 18th consecutive month of year-on-year gain at +11% in August to 65,937 registrations, pushed by private sales up 15%. The year-to-date total now stands at 1,391,788 units, up 10% on 2012. Lower sales usually means a more volatile models ranking, and we have just that this month in the UK. While the Ford Fiesta keeps a tight hold on its pole position thanks to 3,289 sales and 5%, the Vauxhall Astra is up to #2 for the first time since last December at 2,428 units and 3.7% and the VW Golf is back on the podium at #3 for the first time in 18 months (since February 2012) with 2,233 sales and 3.4%.
The BMW 1 Series is back inside the Top 10 for the 6th time in the last 12 months in 6th place at 1,927 units and 2.9%, its highest ranking in the UK so far this year, and potentially its strongest market share ever in the country! The other hero of the month is the Vauxhall Insignia, back within the Top 10 best-sellers for the first time since July 2012 at #10 with 1,147 sales and 1.7%.
